Doha: Qatari newspapers highlighted in their Thursday editorials the State of Qatar's welcome of the ceasefire announcement between the United States and Iran, stressing that this clear and balanced position pushes diplomatic weight towards turning this truce into a real starting point towards stability. This welcome reflects the consistent approach by Qatar based on prioritizing peaceful solutions and the belief that crises, however complex, remain containable if the political will and wise mediation are available, the newspapers pointed out.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Sharq newspaper noted that as soon as the ceasefire was announced for a period of two weeks between the US, Israel, and Iran, and the groundwork was laid for the start of negotiations in Islamabad between Washington and Tehran on Friday with the aim of reaching a final agreement, the State of Qatar welcomed this step. The State of Qatar continued consultations and coordination with fraternal countries regarding the ongoing developments in light of the ceasefire announcement. HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani reviewed developments during a phone call with HE President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan, stressing the country's keenness to support regional and international efforts aimed at reducing escalation and enhancing security and stability in the region.
The newspaper also referred to the communication of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani with the Foreign Ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Republic of Turkiye, and the Kingdom of Spain. His Excellency stressed the need to urgently build on the ceasefire agreement to prevent the spread of tension in the region, while emphasizing the importance of ensuring the security of maritime routes and freedom of navigation and international trade. This is in accordance with the rules of international law to contribute to maintaining the stability of the region and global supply chains.
Al-Arab newspaper confirmed that the announcement of a ceasefire between the US and Iran comes at a very complex regional moment and presents a rare opportunity to redirect the region towards a more rational path. The newspaper pointed out that amidst the voices of escalation and scenes of tension, the State of Qatar's position stands out as balanced and clear.
