Qatari Newspapers Highlight Efforts for Ceasefire in Gaza Strip

Doha: In their editorials on Monday, Qatari newspapers focused on the extensive efforts being made by the State of Qatar to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. These efforts include discussions held on Sunday between HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation in the Kingdom of Belgium Maxime Prevot. The discussions addressed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also emphasized the joint statement issued by Qatar and Egypt, which confirmed their commitment to intensifying efforts to reconcile differing views and address contentious points to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. This is based on the proposal put forward by the US President's envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.

Al-Arab newspaper, in its editorial, highlighted the significance of the joint statement by Qatar and Egypt, which underscores both nations' dedication to overcoming obstacles hampering ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip. It noted that in this context, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met with Maxime Prevot to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and reviewing the latest developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

The editorial further stressed the importance of opening border crossings and delivering humanitarian and relief aid immediately to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. It also underlined the necessity of reconstructing the Gaza Strip following the plan adopted at the emergency Arab summit in Cairo in March 2025.

Meanwhile, Al-Sharq newspaper mentioned in its editorial that since the onset of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, the joint mediation involving Qatar, Egypt, and the United States has been relentless in its efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire and the release of hostages and detainees.

The newspaper added that Qatar has continued to work diligently, in close coordination with Egypt, to reach an agreement that spares innocent lives, halts the war, and restores hope for a secure future in the region. It also highlighted the joint statement by Qatar and Egypt, reaffirming their commitment to intensive efforts to bring views closer and address contentious points to reach a ceasefire agreement, based on the proposal by Steve Witkoff, thus facilitating the resumption of indirect negotiations.

Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by stating that Qatar and Egypt remain steadfast in their efforts to urge the parties to swiftly reach an agreement that ends the conflict and alleviates the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
