Doha: Qatari newspapers on Monday focused their editorials on the phone call received by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani from HE Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Friedrich Merz. The Chancellor expressed his gratitude to His Highness for Qatar's efforts in facilitating the return of Afghan nationals from Germany to their homeland and praised Qatar's ongoing humanitarian contributions.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers emphasized the crucial role Qatar continues to play in coordinating international efforts and facilitating dialogue between the United Nations, relevant countries, and the Afghan caretaker government. This includes assisting in the return of 81 Afghan citizens from Germany. The reports also addressed the Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation's annual report, which ranked Qatar second in the Arab world and 33rd globally in the 2024 Comprehensive Investment Climate Index.
Al-Sharq newspaper noted that HH the Amir received the phone call from HE Friedrich Merz, who thanked Qatar for its assistance in returning Afghans to their homeland. The newspaper highlighted Qatar's ongoing commitment to mediation and facilitating communication between Afghanistan and the international community, a role that began with the Doha Agreement signed on February 29, 2020. Qatar's support for the Afghan people focuses on achieving peace and stability through cooperation with international partners, which has earned the country international recognition.
Al-Watan newspaper also highlighted the phone call, with Merz expressing gratitude for Qatar's assistance. The editorial mentioned Qatar's hosting of the signing ceremony for the Declaration of Principles between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Congo River Alliance/March 23 Movement in Doha. This event garnered attention for Qatar's effective role in mediation and conflict resolution, reinforcing its reputation as a trusted mediator.
Both Al-Sharq and Al-Watan concluded by affirming that Qatar's efforts in mediation and humanitarian roles serve the higher goal of promoting peace and stability, not only in Afghanistan but also in other regions, contributing to international peace and security.
