Doha: Qatari newspapers discussed in their Thursday editorials the first meeting of the Security Committee of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, chaired by HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force "Lekhwiya" Chairman of the Security Committee. The meeting was held at the National Command Centre with participation from members of the military and security authorities.
According to Qatar News Agency, the editorials emphasized Qatar's commitment to establishing itself as a key player in the global sporting arena, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030. This vision focuses on economic diversification, environmental initiatives, human development, and social progress, with sports being highlighted as a crucial pillar for its implementation, as outlined in the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030.
Al-Watan newspaper noted that the meeting reviewed strategies for developing security measures for major events hosted by Qatar. This includes upcoming tournaments such as the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025, the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix 2025, and the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025. Qatar is also preparing for its role in securing the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy and the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the USA, as well as its bid for the 2036 Olympics.
In another editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted Qatar's dedication to supporting international efforts in sustainable development, specifically for landlocked developing countries facing geographic and economic challenges. The paper referenced a statement by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation D. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad during the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Awaza, Turkmenistan.
Al-Sharq underscored Qatar's support for the Awaza Program of Action (2024-2034), emphasizing its commitment to address transportation, transit, and logistics challenges that hinder development and regional integration. Under the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Qatar has actively provided technical and financial support to these countries, reinforcing multilateral cooperation and sustainable development goals.
