Doha: Qatari newspapers on Saturday addressed a range of domestic, regional, and international issues, highlighting the country's steadfast commitment to serving its citizens and residents, advancing sustainable development, and supporting regional and international efforts to promote peace and stability.
According to Qatar News Agency, the editorials commended the continued success of the Qatari Hajj Mission, underscoring its high level of organizational efficiency and extensive field expertise, which have enabled it to deliver comprehensive services and ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience for Qatari pilgrims.
The newspapers also reflected on the legacy and achievements of one of Qatar's most prominent national figures, whose contributions played a pivotal role in the development of the country's energy sector and in strengthening Qatar's position as a leading player on the global stage. In addition, the editorials marked the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, emphasizing the importance of investing in peacebuilding, diplomacy, and mediation as effective tools for resolving conflicts and fostering security and stability worldwide.
The newspapers further drew attention to the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, where ongoing military operations continue to exact a heavy toll on civilians, renewing calls for urgent international action to alleviate suffering and protect innocent lives.
For its part, Al-Raya newspaper said that the Qatari Hajj Mission, affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, has developed into a well-established institutional framework built on years of accumulated field and administrative expertise. This experience, it noted, has enabled the mission to provide a distinguished model of service for Qatari pilgrims through meticulous planning, effective coordination, and rapid response mechanisms, ensuring the smooth performance of Hajj rituals in a secure and well-organized environment.
Al-Raya said that the 1447 AH Hajj season underscored the significant advances achieved by Qatar's Hajj system in operational efficiency, service quality, and institutional coordination. It pointed to the high level of integration between the Qatari Hajj Mission, Hajj campaigns, and the relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which contributed to facilitating pilgrims' journey and enhancing their overall Hajj experience.
The editorial added that the mission's sustained success reflects a strategic vision adopted by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, founded on continuous development, the adoption of international best practices in crowd management and service delivery, and the effective utilization of national expertise and capabilities. Al-Raya further highlighted Qatar's commitment to ensuring optimal conditions for its pilgrims through early planning and close oversight of all logistical and service arrangements. It also praised the extensive efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to serve pilgrims, citing the advanced infrastructure, facilities, and services provided to ensure a safe, efficient, and seamless Hajj season.
Meanwhile, Al-Arab newspaper said that Qatar had lost one of its most distinguished national figures with the passing of HE Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, whose contributions were instrumental to the country's modern economic transformation. The newspaper noted that Al Attiyah played a central role in the development of Qatar's energy sector and in strengthening the country's presence on regional and international platforms.
The editorial highlighted a distinguished career spanning more than five decades, during which Al Attiyah held a series of senior leadership positions across the energy, government, administrative, and international affairs sectors. It underscored his pivotal role in helping transform Qatar into a global leader in liquefied natural gas and energy production, as well as his contribution to shaping the country's energy policies and overseeing strategic projects that cemented its position among the world's leading energy exporters.
Al-Arab added that Al Attiyah's influence extended beyond the energy sector, encompassing international efforts related to sustainable development and climate action. It noted that he chaired the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development in 2006 and played a prominent role in the 2012 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP18) hosted by Doha. The conference culminated in the adoption of the Doha Climate Gateway, a landmark outcome that advanced negotiations toward a comprehensive global climate agreement and secured a second commitment period for the Kyoto Protocol.
The newspaper further noted that Al Attiyah received numerous regional and international honors in recognition of his achievements, including Qatar's Order of Independence, the Order of Orange-Nassau of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Japan's Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. He was also awarded honorary doctorates by Texas A and M University and Italy's University of Tor Vergata.
