Doha:The co-chairs of the Economy, Trade and Industry Committee of the Qatari-Saudi Coordination Council held a meeting via videoconference to discuss economic collaboration.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting was co-chaired by HE Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al-Thani from Qatar and HE Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal bin Fadel Al Ibrahim from Saudi Arabia. Officials and representatives from relevant entities on both sides attended the meeting.
The discussions focused on strengthening economic, trade, and industrial cooperation between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The meeting reviewed progress on implementing joint initiatives and projects that serve the interests of both countries. Economic relations were analyzed, with bilateral trade reaching approximately USD 1.98 billion in 2025, a 36 percent increase from the previous year. In the first quarter of 2026, the growth rate was 18 percent, surpassing the targeted 15 percent. Additionally, over 977 Saudi companies are active in the Qatari market.
Priority areas of cooperation included facilitating import and export procedures, enhancing bilateral trade, activating the private sector and SMEs, and collaborating on consumer protection and business establishment. The meeting also discussed integration in supply chains, financial cooperation, and joint credit solutions.
Preparations for launching a joint strategy to achieve economic and trade targets were also addressed, aiming to identify priorities, initiatives, and measurable targets for the future. Challenges in trade between the two countries were considered, with proposed solutions to overcome obstacles for exporters. Both sides emphasized the importance of implementing approved directives and initiatives before the next meeting of the Qatari-Saudi Coordination Council to strengthen economic and industrial integration and support bilateral trade growth.
