Qatar’s “B” Basketball Team to Face the Philippines Tomorrow in Fourth Round of William Jones Cup

Taipei: Qatar's "B" national basketball team is gearing up for a challenging clash against the Philippines tomorrow, Tuesday, in the fourth round of the 44th edition of the William Jones Cup, currently taking place in Taipei, China. The tournament runs until July 20.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari side heads into the match after a narrow 77-82 defeat to Australia, despite delivering a strong performance. Qatar led at the end of the first quarter (21-19), trailed in the second (15-19), drew level in the third (19-19), but Australia edged the final quarter (25-22) to secure a five-point victory.

Following this result, Qatar now has four points in the standings from one win, against the UAE, and two losses to Japan and Australia. The team is eager to return to winning ways against the Philippines, one of the tournament's strongest contenders.

Qatar is participating in the William Jones Cup as part of its preparations for the 36th Arab Basketball Championship, which will be held in Bahrain from July 25 to August 2. The regional tournament will feature teams from Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Palestine, and host nation Bahrain.

Qatar's remaining schedule in the William Jones Cup includes matchups against Chinese Taipei (Team B) on Wednesday, Bahrain on July 17, Chinese Taipei (Team A) on July 19, and Malaysia on July 20.

The William Jones Cup is one of Asia's oldest and most prestigious basketball tournaments, attracting strong teams from multiple continents. This year's edition features national teams from Japan, Australia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Bahrain, both Chinese Taipei (A and B) squads, as well as the UAE and Qatar, ensuring a highly competitive atmosphere and providing valuable international experience.

It is worth noting that the Qatar Basketball Federation is fielding the "B" team in this tournament as part of its strategic development plan to strengthen the national program ahead of continental competitions.
