Qatar’s Beach Handball Team Reaches Semi-Finals at Sanya 2026 Asian Beach Games

Sanya: Qatar's beach handball team secured their place in the semi-finals of the Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 with a decisive 2-0 victory over Thailand. The team clinched the win with set scores of 26-20 and 22-20, maintaining their unbeaten run and leading Group B with 12 points.

According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar began their campaign with successive wins against Pakistan and Oman and continued their dominance with victories over Bangladesh, Mongolia, and Jordan. The team is set to face the Maldives on Monday in their final preliminary match before the semi-finals on Tuesday, with the final scheduled for Thursday. As the defending champions, Qatar aims to sustain their winning streak and retain their title.

In beach volleyball, Qatar's leading duo, Sherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating the second Qatari team, Mohammed Ehab and Mousa Al Khair, in straight sets. Earlier, the top team excelled in Group B, overcoming Maldives, Uzbekistan, and Iran. The second team moved to the knockout stage after wins over Saudi Arabia and Macau, despite a loss to China. Sherif and Tijan will face China in the quarter-finals on Monday.

In 3x3 basketball, Qatar's men's team will play against India on Monday, having already secured wins against Bahrain and Kazakhstan. They aim to top their group with another victory. On the women's side, Qatar is set to face Kazakhstan, seeking to recover from a loss to China.

In wrestling, Qatar's men's team is preparing for their competition starting Tuesday. Competitors Saad Al Hammadi (80kg) and Hamad Al Nuaimi (70kg) aim to showcase the sport's growth in Qatar. This participation offers a chance to gain experience against top Asian wrestlers.
