Qatar’s Cabinet Meeting Highlights Localization Plans and Artistic Development

DOHA: Qatari newspapers have highlighted key topics from Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani. The meeting focused on the progress of implementing localization and replacement plans in government jobs, alongside the Cabinet’s approval, in principle, of a draft law on artists and artistic professions, reflecting Qatar’s commitment to cultural development.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Cabinet reviewed the success of various government institutions in nationalizing jobs, which aligns with Qatar’s strategy to build an efficient national workforce. Al Arab newspaper emphasized the importance of establishing specific mechanisms for successful localization, such as providing training courses for Qatari youth and ensuring coordination between commercial institutions and government agencies. The newspaper praised the increase in the percentage of Qataris appointed to government positions, indicating the ability of these institutions to attract national talents.

Additionally, Qatari newspapers noted the significant growth in the tourism sector, with a record 5,076,640 visitors last year, attributed to Qatar’s diverse tourism offerings and modern infrastructure. The country’s diplomatic successes and humanitarian role in 2024 were also lauded, underscoring Qatar’s status as a reliable international partner.

Meanwhile, Al Watan newspaper focused on the special attention given to art and artists in Qatar. It highlighted the Cabinet’s approval of a draft law on artists and artistic professions, prepared by the Ministry of Culture as part of the state’s Third National Development Strategy to support creative sectors. The draft law aims to regulate artistic practices and sustain artists’ creativity, reflecting Qatar’s cultural aspirations and values.

In conclusion, the newspapers collectively portrayed Qatar’s efforts in enhancing government workforce localization, fostering artistic development, and reinforcing its position as a global tourist destination and diplomatic partner.
