Qatar’s Commitment to Palestine and Syria Highlighted in Local Editorials

Doha: In a recent editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper emphasized the significant attention HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani pays to the Palestinian cause, underscoring its importance in Qatar's foreign policy. The editorial highlighted Qatar Red Crescent Society's (QRCS) signing of two cooperation agreements with the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). These agreements aim to support PRCS's ambulance and emergency medical services in the West Bank through the provision of medications, medical equipment, consumables, and four ambulance vehicles. This initiative seeks to enhance readiness and the capacity to save lives, particularly during emergencies. The support is timely, given the escalating aggression against the West Bank, with increased raids and assaults, alongside threats from Israeli leaders to mimic the situation in Gaza within the West Bank.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Sharq also noted that Qatar is actively engaging in diplomatic efforts with Egypt and the United States to halt the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The country is working towards opening border crossings to facilitate the continuous entry of humanitarian aid, addressing the severe humanitarian crisis in the region.

Meanwhile, the Peninsula newspaper reported on Qatar's consistent support for Syria, aimed at realizing the aspirations of the Syrian people for security, stability, and development. Under the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, a team from the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) has been dispatched to Syria to participate in firefighting operations in the Latakia countryside along the Syrian coast.

Since the onset of the Syrian crisis in March 2011, Qatar has been committed to supporting the Syrian people by offering relief aid to refugees and internally displaced persons. The Peninsula highlighted that Qatar's assistance includes supplying natural gas for electricity generation. Furthermore, Qatar, in collaboration with Saudi Arabia, has settled Syria's arrears to the World Bank, totaling approximately $15 million.
