Qatar’s Diplomatic Efforts Focus on Peace and Stability in Gaza

Doha: In a recent statement, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani addressed concerns regarding the expansion of Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized the worrying developments in the region and reiterated Qatar's commitment to mediating a resolution aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people and facilitating the release of hostages.

According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts from the outset, striving to foster a peaceful and secure environment through negotiations. Despite setbacks, such as the collapse of agreements that initially freed hostages, Qatar remains determined to pursue a phased agreement that ensures the withdrawal from Gaza and relief for its people. Sheikh Mohammed criticized the ongoing blockade and the international community's failure to adequately address the humanitarian crisis.

Sheikh Mohammed affirmed Qatar's ongoing collaboration with Egypt and the United States to restore stability and secure the release of hostages. He highlighted the challenges faced in negotiations, noting a persistent gap between parties seeking different types of agreements. While Qatar's efforts to bridge this gap have not yet yielded results, the Prime Minister maintained that diplomatic solutions are essential to avoid further harm.

Addressing regional tensions, the Prime Minister condemned Israeli actions beyond Gaza, including in the West Bank, Syria, and Lebanon, and called for a peaceful settlement. He referenced US President Donald Trump's remarks in Riyadh about the Gulf states' critical role in shaping the future Middle East.

Sheikh Mohammed also discussed the potential threat to regional security posed by the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, emphasizing the need for strong leadership and a comprehensive settlement. He advocated for coexistence in a region marked by diverse cultures and religions but plagued by longstanding conflicts.

Regarding US-Iran relations, Sheikh Mohammed expressed optimism about ongoing dialogue and Qatar's support for diplomatic efforts led by the Sultanate of Oman. He underscored Qatar's commitment to preventing a nuclear arms race and promoting regional peace.
