Post: Qatar’s Mediation Efforts Central to Foreign Policy

Warsaw:HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi highlighted Qatar's commitment to mediation as a core component of its foreign policy during a high-level panel discussion at the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland. The panel, titled "Negotiating Peace in the Middle East Lessons from the Frontlines of Diplomacy," provided a platform for discussing Qatar's longstanding role in promoting regional stability through dialogue and conflict resolution.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Khulaifi stressed the importance of open communication channels and prioritizing humanitarian needs in mediation efforts. He noted that Qatar's experiences with various mediation initiatives underscore the need to prevent complex issues from stalling progress, ensure the enforcement of agreements, and promote collective action among mediators.

In relation to the situation in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Al Khulaifi emphasized the significance of implementing the agreed-upon understandings, enabling the Palestinian committee to fulfill its responsibilities, and establishing a verification mechanism for weapon decommissioning linked to Israeli withdrawal. He stressed that these steps should coincide with the deployment of a stabilization force and the start of reconstruction efforts, aiming for a clear political path toward the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Addressing regional conflicts, Dr. Al Khulaifi affirmed Qatar's commitment to diplomatic efforts, advocating for humanitarian confidence-building measures and addressing key issues such as the Iranian nuclear file, freedom of navigation, and sanctions through separate diplomatic tracks. He also highlighted the potential of utilizing ceasefire periods to reopen maritime corridors, stressing the need for implementation mechanisms and synchronized actions in new agreements. Dr. Al Khulaifi acknowledged the significant roles of Saudi Arabia and Oman in regional diplomacy, particularly regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

In conclusion, Dr. Al Khulaifi called for the protection and political support of mediators and emphasized the importance of coordinating their efforts to ensure effective conflict resolution.
