Geneva: HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, participated today in the interactive dialogue on the human rights of women and children in conflict and post-conflict situations, under item 3 of the agenda of the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency affirmed that protecting women and children during and after armed conflicts was of paramount importance and constituted a priority in the State of Qatar's foreign policy, diplomacy, and humanitarian programs. Highlighting Qatar's commitment, Dr. Al Muftah mentioned several international initiatives launched by Qatar, including Resolution 60/19, in partnership with the Republic of Costa Rica, aimed at promoting and protecting the human rights of women and children in conflict and post-conflict situations. Another significant initiative, the Women in Conflict Zones, was launched in September 2022 to bolster the protection of women and ensure their active participation in peace processes.
Additionally, Her Excellency referred to Qatar's hosting of the Analysis and Outreach Hub of the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, which supports prevention and monitoring efforts. Dr. Al Muftah reiterated Qatar's call for all parties involved in conflicts to adhere to their obligations under international law and to immediately cease grave violations against women and children. She emphasized the necessity of ensuring justice, holding violators accountable, and providing victims with effective remedies and reparations in accordance with international law.
