Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced today the final squad of the Qatar Olympic team for the football competition at the 2026 Asian Games, which will be held in the Japanese city of Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4. Head coach of the Qatar Under-23 national team, Jose Angel Lacunza, selected a 23-player squad for the tournament. The squad comprises goalkeepers Abubakar Mohammed, Jalal Amir, and Mohammed Fawzi, along with Mohammed Hani, Faisal Mohammed, Yaman Jarrar, Bassam Adel, Zaid Burhan, Ali Shehabi, Alwaleed Mohammed, Atef Magdy, Jassim Al Hamad, Mohammed Ali, Muath Ibrahim, Yousef Mohammed, Nawaf Al Yahri, Tamim Al Qadi, Ziad Fadi, Qais Al Rawi, Nasser Adel, Mohammed Khaled, Marwan Sherif, and Ghanem Al Menhali.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatar Olympic team's delegation departed Doha early this morning for Aichi-Nagoya to compete in the tournament, with the football competition set to begin on September 15, four days before the Games' official opening ceremony on September 19. The draw for the football competition placed Qatar in Group D alongside South Korea and Saudi Arabia, setting up a competitive battle for qualification to the knockout stages.
The football competition at the Games features 15 national teams divided into four groups. Three groups consist of four teams each, while Group D has three teams. Under the competition format, the group stage will be played in a single round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals, with the tournament thereafter continuing on a knockout basis through the final and the third-place playoff.
