Bucharest: Romania summoned the Russian ambassador to Bucharest today after a drone crashed into an apartment building in the country, injuring two people. Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu indicated through a post on the X platform that the Russian ambassador would be officially informed of the repercussions of this "irresponsible act" on diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to Qatar News Agency, Romania plans to engage in discussions at the European level concerning the next steps regarding the sanctions package imposed on Russia, following what has been described as a "very serious" incident. Earlier today, Romanian authorities reported the injury of two individuals when a drone crashed into an apartment building in the southeastern city of Galati, during an attack launched by Russia on neighboring Ukraine.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense disclosed that the drone had impacted the roof of a ten-story apartment building, causing an explosion and a subsequent fire. Emergency fire and rescue teams were dispatched promptly to manage the blaze and facilitate the evacuation of residents.
Romania, a member of both NATO and the European Union, shares a land border of approximately 650 kilometers with Ukraine, highlighting the geographic and diplomatic sensitivity of the incident.
