Doha: Ukraine acknowledged today, for the first time, that Russian forces have entered the Dnipropetrovsk region in central Ukraine, an area that until now had been spared from the heaviest fighting.
According to Qatar News Agency, Viktor Trehubov of the Dnipro Operational Strategic Group of Forces confirmed that Russian troops had indeed crossed into the region and that fighting was ongoing.
Unlike regions Moscow has formally declared annexed such as Crimea, Dnipropetrovsk was not among the territories Russia claims to have absorbed.
This admission by Kyiv of territorial losses in Dnipropetrovsk comes as efforts to achieve a potential peace agreement continue to stall.
