Doha: The Shura Council convened its ordinary weekly session on Monday at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council's headquarters, with HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim presiding over the meeting.
According to Qatar News Agency, the session began with the Shura Council expressing its approval of Qatar's hosting of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, which is set to commence later on Monday. The Council highlighted the meticulous organizational and operational preparations that illustrate Qatar's capability in managing significant sporting events with proficiency.
The Council emphasized that, under the guidance of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the tournament serves as an important Arab sporting event in Doha. It further noted that the championship promotes Arab unity, fosters closer relationships, and facilitates the exchange of experiences, while also using sports as a medium for fostering communication and strengthening human connections.
Subsequently, HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud outlined the session's agenda, and the minutes from the previous session were approved by the Council.
During the session, the Council ratified the State's draft general budget for the fiscal year 2026, along with the draft law approving the budget. These documents were forwarded to the esteemed government following the Council's review of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee's report and discussion of its details.
The Council also reviewed a draft law aimed at amending provisions of Decree-Law No. (24) of 2019 concerning the regulation and management of the strategic stock of food and consumer goods. This draft law, referred by the esteemed government, was sent to the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee for further examination and reporting back to the Council.
Additionally, the Shura Council considered the government's statement on the Council's proposal titled "The Teacher and His Role in Instilling National Identity Values." The matter was referred to the Education, Culture, Sports, and Media Affairs Committee for further analysis and to provide its findings to the Council.
The session also included a review of reports on the participation of HE Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, in international summits and meetings held in July, and the involvement of other Council members in various parliamentary assemblies and committees.
