Spain: Spain continues its efforts to control 14 major fires, warning of "unfavorable conditions" to combat the flames that have killed seven people so far and burned vast areas of forest.
According to Qatar News Agency, Director General of Emergency Services Birginia Barcones said that the 12-day heatwave and winds coming from the south have created significant challenges for firefighters in controlling the blazes, in one of the worst summers of fires in the country in the past 20 years.
She said that the situation in the western part of the country is "very worrying," noting that several fires in Galicia have combined to form a larger blaze, forcing authorities to close highways and railway services in the region.
She also stated that the fires in the province of Ourense have spread to the neighboring province of Zamora, noting that although many residents have been evacuated, some have remained to protect their homes.
It's worth noting that firefighters in several southern European countries are struggling to extinguish forest fires, which were sparked by the prolonged heatwave sweeping the region.
