New York:At least one person has died, and widespread power outages have been reported following a severe storm that struck the East Coast of the United States.
According to Qatar News Agency, the storm impacted multiple cities with heavy rain and strong winds, creating hazardous conditions through high waves.
The New York area experienced the brunt of the storm, with forecasts indicating up to eight inches of rain and wind gusts reaching 80 miles per hour in parts of the Northeast. Coastal flooding was reported in Queens, Staten Island, Long Island, and along the New Jersey coast, coinciding with high tide.
Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for New York City, Westchester County, and Long Island as the storm downed trees and power lines, leaving over 100,000 homes without electricity along the Atlantic coast. The severe weather conditions are expected to persist through Monday, affecting large areas of the Northeastern United States.
