Storm Claudia Claims Three Lives in Portugal

Lisbon: Three people were killed in Portugal as a result of Storm Claudia, while 28 others were injured, according to authorities there. Portugal, along with parts of Spain, has been grappling with severe climatic upheavals for several days due to the storm, which on Saturday extended its ferocity to regions in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

According to Qatar News Agency, authorities reported that an elderly couple lost their lives inside their water-engulfed home in the Fernao Ferro area near Lisbon, while emergency services confirmed that an 85-year-old woman perished in Albufeira in the south of the country. Additionally, 28 individuals were injured, two of whom were hospitalized in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the town of Monmouth and the surrounding areas in southeast Wales, UK, witnessed rampant flooding. The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that rescue and evacuation operations are underway, with a government spokesperson in Wales stating that the storm has unleashed severe flooding across parts of Wales overnight, continuing to impact homes, businesses, transportation, and energy infrastructure.
