New York:Syrian President Ahmad Al Sharaa has outlined Syria's vision for a new phase of state-building, focusing on establishing new institutions, reshaping political and legal frameworks, and restoring Syria's regional standing.
According to Qatar News Agency, President Al Sharaa, speaking at an Atlantic Council event, emphasized the efforts to build a new army and state institutions while reviewing laws and drafting a new constitution.
The President highlighted ongoing challenges, such as Israeli attacks and incursions, stating the Golan is Syrian territory and that Syria is pursuing a diplomatic path to address these issues.
Regarding foreign military presence, Al Sharaa noted that the number of Russian bases in Syria has been reduced from approximately 170 to two, with the remaining facilities repurposed for Syrian army training. He also mentioned that the Turkish military presence is being managed within legal frameworks.
President Al Sharaa addressed Syria's relations with the United States and regional countries, focusing on reconstruction, economic recovery, and investment. He stressed the importance of lifting sanctions to enable Syria's reintegration into the regional and international community.
