Damascus: Syrian President Ahmad Al Sharaa said the removal of Syria from the US list of State Sponsors of Terrorism marks a new chapter for Syria, paving the way for development, reconstruction, and nation-building.

According to Qatar News Agency, in an address to the Syrian people on Monday evening, President Al Sharaa stated that Syria was turning the page on a painful past and entering a new phase. He described the removal of the "dark stain" as a step toward a brighter future. He emphasized that the Syrian people had once again succeeded in overcoming the sanctions and restrictions imposed on their country.

President Al Sharaa expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump and acknowledged the friendly and supportive countries that had stood by Syria during challenging times.

The US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued an update to its sanctions regulations on Monday, removing Syria from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism after the congressional review process was completed without objection. Syria had been designated as a state sponsor of terrorism by the United States since 1979.
