Trump to Host Armenia, Azerbaijan Leaders for ‘Historic Peace Summit’

Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that he will host the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan on Friday for what he described as a "historic peace summit" aimed at ending decades of conflict between the two countries. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan "will join me at the White House for an official Peace Signing Ceremony," Trump posted Thursday on his Truth Social platform.

According to Qatar News Agency, Trump emphasized that these two nations have been at war for many years, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people. He noted that many leaders have tried to end the war without success until now, and highlighted his administration's long-term engagement with both sides to facilitate this historic meeting.

Trump also revealed that Washington will sign bilateral agreements with both countries to pursue economic opportunities together, aiming to fully unlock the potential of the South Caucasus Region. The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has spanned decades, primarily over the Nagorno-Karabakh region and surrounding territories. Periodic clashes and escalations have claimed thousands of lives over the years.
