Doha: Two people were killed after two firefighting helicopters collided while battling a massive wildfire that has destroyed more than 100 homes northwest of Athens. The Greek Fire Service reported that the two victims were aboard one of the helicopters, whereas the two crew members of the other aircraft survived. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
According to Qatar News Agency, Greek authorities had raised the wildfire alert to its highest level for the Greater Athens area on Saturday as strong winds propelled the flames closer to the capital. Firefighters have been diligently working to contain the blaze and prevent further destruction.
Several European countries, including France, Spain, Germany, Turkiye, and Italy, are currently grappling with widespread wildfires. There have been warnings that rising temperatures and climate change are contributing to the increased intensity of these fires.
