Seven people were killed and another went missing in Typhoon Trami, which has been hitting southern China for three days.
The emergency management authorities in the island province of Hainan reported in a statement that heavy rains accompanied Trami, the 20th typhoon to hit the region this year, noting that it fell on many parts of the province, prompting the evacuation of more than 40,000 people.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources issued a level-four emergency response to the floods caused by Typhoon Trami’s extended impact in Hainan, while Qionghai City, one of the most affected areas, was placed on the highest level of emergency response to the floods and winds, since late Tuesday.
China has a four-level emergency response system, with level one representing the most severe emergency response.
