UN Climate Body Urges Faster Shift to Clean Energy

The united nations: The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has called for accelerating the transition to clean energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels amid intensifying heatwaves affecting parts of Europe and Asia.

According to Qatar News Agency, Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change Simon Stiell emphasized that the recent heatwave in Europe serves as a stark reminder of the growing human and economic impact of the climate crisis. He highlighted the urgent need for countries to reduce their dependence on coal, oil, and gas as well as halt deforestation, which are contributing to extreme weather events.

Stiell noted that countries including India are experiencing severe heatwaves exacerbated by human-driven climate change. Several European nations, such as the United Kingdom and France, have recorded unusually high temperatures, while India saw temperatures rise to 47.4 degrees Celsius on Monday.
