Post: UN Coordinator Highlights Ongoing Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza and Fragility in West Bank

Gaza Strip:Acting United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Ramiz Alakbarov, has issued a warning about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Despite progress in food supply access, significant challenges persist in areas such as water, sanitation, shelter, and waste management. The population remains heavily dependent on aid and cash transfers, with the labor market showing little sign of recovery.

According to Qatar News Agency, Alakbarov detailed the UN's continued efforts in Gaza, focusing on sectors like water, sanitation, health, debris removal, education, and agricultural support. He noted that over 300,000 children are currently receiving education in temporary facilities, and agricultural land remains scarce.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) continues its operations in Gaza despite various restrictions. Alakbarov highlighted that more than 8,000 people are still missing under the rubble in the Strip. Residents express a strong desire to move out of tents before winter, return to educational and work environments, and regain essential services like water, sanitation, and electricity.

In the West Bank, Alakbarov described the situation as "highly fragile," citing issues such as Israeli settlement activity, violence, movement restrictions, and economic strains. The UN is actively providing grants, cash assistance, and legal support to impacted families and communities.

On the political front, Alakbarov reiterated the necessity of a two-state solution, emphasizing the importance of addressing the Palestinian issue comprehensively, rebuilding trust, curbing incitement to violence, and supporting the unity of Palestinian institutions. He stressed the significance of Palestinian elections as a critical component in advancing political prospects.
