US Envoy: New Round of Ukraine Talks Could Take Place Within Three Weeks

New york: US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff expressed hope that a new round of talks on the Ukraine file could take place within the next three weeks, potentially leading to a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to Qatar News Agency, Witkoff said that Jared Kushner and he were optimistic that proposals had been put on the table for both sides that could bring them together within the next three weeks.

He indicated that these talks could eventually evolve into a trilateral summit including the US president. Witkoff also emphasized that Putin has always been frank with him during their meetings.

The US Special Envoy indicated that understanding Russia's position had been essential, noting that it would be difficult to reach an agreement with the other side without first understanding its motives and objectives. He added that many of these meetings have now become extremely important.

Meanwhile, Russia described the latest round of talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine, held last Wednesday in Geneva, as arduous.

Head of the Russian delegation at the talks Vladimir Medinsky said that the talks in Geneva were difficult and practical in nature, adding that a new round of talks would be held soon.

In January, Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Moscow with US presidential envoys Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner to continue dialogue on a settlement in Ukraine.
