WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot engaged in a phone call to discuss the ongoing developments in Syria and Lebanon, focusing on humanitarian efforts and political stability.
According to Qatar News Agency, the conversation centered on the situation in Syria, with Blinken emphasizing the necessity of supporting the Syrian population in their pursuit of a more stable future. The discussions highlighted efforts to mitigate risks associated with instability in the region, particularly from ISIS. Blinken stressed the importance of adhering to human rights and international humanitarian law, advocating for measures that protect civilians, including minority groups.
Blinken also addressed the significance of international collaboration in locating individuals who are missing or unjustly detained in Syria. He called for increased global efforts to address these humanitarian concerns.
The statement from the US State Department, delivered by spokesperson Matthew Miller, also detailed Blinken’s appreciation of France’s leadership in aiding Lebanon, especially through support to the Lebanese Armed Forces.
