Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife had been "captured and taken out of the country."
According to Qatar News Agency, Trump wrote in a post on the Truth Social platform, "The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader." He added that US law enforcement authorities participated in the operation, without specifying the nature of their involvement.
Trump stated that further details would be announced at a press conference at 11:00 AM Eastern Time. There has been no official comment from Caracas so far.
Earlier today, the Venezuelan president declared a state of emergency in the country following airstrikes targeting Venezuela, including the capital, Caracas. Loud explosions and the sound of aircraft were heard in Caracas, amid reports of power outages.
