Washington: The US State Department has approved a potential sale of air defense equipment to Ukraine valued at $2.68 billion.
According to Qatar News Agency, the State Department issued a congressional notification confirming "a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Ukraine" for air defense development upgrades and related equipment and services. The notification outlined Ukraine's request for various types of missiles, launchers, anti-drone radars, and trailers.
The State Department noted that if the purchase is finalized, Ukraine would fund it through a mix of European contributions and U.S. Foreign Military Financing allocated during the prior administration. The proposed sale awaits Congressional review.
In related developments, former US President Donald Trump recently stated that he would request European nations to reimburse the cost of US aid given to Ukraine under his predecessor, Joe Biden. Trump has consistently urged European nations to bear a greater share of the expenses associated with Western support for Ukraine.
