Oslo: The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced Friday that Venezuelan activist Maria Corina Machado has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2025. The Norwegian Nobel Committee stated in a press release that Machado was selected in recognition of her tireless efforts to promote democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and her steadfast commitment to achieving a fair and peaceful transition to democracy. According to Qatar News Agency, this week has seen the announcement of Nobel laureates in the fields of Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, and Literature, with the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences scheduled to be revealed next Monday. While all Nobel Prizes are traditionally awarded in Stockholm, the Peace Prize is uniquely presented in Oslo. Each prize carries a monetary award of 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately USD 1.1 million).
