World Leaders Extend Condolences as Qatar Mourns the Passing of Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani

Doha: The Amiri Diwan announced the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani on Sunday morning, July 12, 2026, at the age of 74. The nation is in mourning as HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani led the funeral prayer at the Imam Muhammed ibn Abd Al Wahhab Mosque. The funeral procession followed at Lusail Cemetery.

According to Qatar News Agency, HH the Amir will be receiving condolences from heads of state, members of the ruling family, dignitaries, and citizens at Lusail Palace on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, July 13, 14, and 15, 2026. The timings are set from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM and after Asr prayer until Isha prayer. The Amiri Diwan has declared a four-day period of public mourning throughout Qatar, with all ministries, government agencies, and public institutions suspending work from Monday, July 13, 2026. Normal operations will resume on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

In a related development, the Ministry of Defense announced the interception of multiple ballistic missile attacks targeting Qatar. The Ministry of Interior reported that three individuals, including a child, were injured by falling debris during the interception operations. All injured parties are receiving the necessary medical care.

The State of Qatar has condemned these renewed attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran, which also targeted Jordan, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait. Qatar views these actions as violations of sovereignty and breaches of international law, the UN Charter, and principles of good neighborliness.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport issued a circular on Sunday, advising all marine vessel owners and users, including those with leisure boats, fishing boats, and jet skis, to temporarily cease maritime activities until further notice to ensure public safety.
