YouTube announced its entry into e-gaming through the launch of the Playables initiative, which provides a play experience via the video-sharing platform’s official website and the Android and iOS app.
YouTube began its gaming experience last year by introducing the Playables Initiative for YouTube Premium subscribers, and the first phase involved fewer games, as it only lasted for a limited period, ending in March.
Through its official blog, the platform announced the availability of games within the Playables initiative, offering users more than 75 different games, such as chess games, crossword and popular games.
Those games can be played directly from the browser or within the YouTube app without having to download them.
New games can be tried when available by heading to the YouTube homepage, either on desktop or in mobile apps, then searching for playable games from the Explore tab, and the game can also be shared with friends, by clicking on the list of additional three points, and the platform wil
l also allow you to save progress in games, tracking the best results.
The video-sharing platform said it will provide those games to more users in the coming months, meaning they will gradually be available to users.
As the gaming sector continues to grow, tech companies are expected to continue to invest, and we may see new developments including innovative gaming experiences based on VR and AR technologies, and partnerships between gaming platforms and tech companies may expand to provide exclusive content that attracts more subscribers.
