Doha: Morocco advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Canada on Saturday at Houston Stadium in the opening match of the Round of 16.
According to Qatar News Agency, Morocco continued its tournament run after finishing second in Group C with seven points, earned through victories over Scotland and Haiti and a draw with Brazil. The Atlas Lions then eliminated the Netherlands on penalties in the Round of 32 after a 1-1 draw.
Azzedine Ounahi scored twice, in the 50th and 82nd minutes, while Soufiane Rahimi added a stoppage-time goal in the 98th minute to send Morocco into the quarterfinals.
With the victory, Morocco became the first team to secure a place in the quarterfinals, where it will face the winner of Saturday's Round of 16 match between France and Paraguay.
