47th ASEAN Summit Commences in Kuala Lumpur with Focus on Regional Cooperation

Kuala lumpur: The 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related summits commenced today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability.' The event will extend until October 28, featuring participation from leaders of ASEAN member states along with representatives from partner countries including China, the US, Japan, and India.

According to Qatar News Agency, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted in his opening address the urgency of reinforcing regional cooperation to tackle global economic and geopolitical challenges. He remarked that rising competition and increasing uncertainty are testing ASEAN's economies, as well as the collective resolve of the member states to maintain confidence in cooperation. He noted that ASEAN's strength is rooted in the belief that respect and rationality continue to unify its member states.

Throughout the summit, leaders will deliberate on various critical issues, such as advancing regional economic integration, promoting sustainable economic growth, improving connectivity among ASEAN nations, and enhancing collaboration in areas like the digital economy, clean energy, and artificial intelligence. Additionally, there will be a review of the progress made in implementing the 18 key economic goals under Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship.

The ASEAN summit is taking place at a pivotal moment, as the region confronts economic and geopolitical challenges that necessitate a coordinated response from member states.
