Doha:Al Noor Center for the Blind has launched an initiative to enhance the inclusion of people with visual disabilities within society. The initiative, developed in partnership with Qatar Media Corporation, aims to recognize the contributions and achievements of individuals with visual impairments.
According to Qatar News Agency, the initiative includes societal awareness programs, interactive experiences, media and digital content, and efforts to build partnerships with various community institutions. Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Director of the Communication and Media Office at Al Noor Center for the Blind, emphasized that the initiative is part of the center's mission to expand awareness and engagement, ultimately fostering inclusion in various societal fields.
The initiative focuses on four main goals: raising awareness, strengthening inclusion, empowering individuals with visual disabilities, and highlighting their capabilities. Al Sulaiti stressed the importance of collaboration among educational, service, cultural, sports, and media institutions, as inclusion is a collective responsibility.
The six-month program features a diverse range of activities, including October's focus on independence through World Sight Day and White Cane Safety Day, and November's emphasis on children, families, and educational visits. December will highlight inclusion and community participation, while January will concentrate on Braille's role in education. Awareness activities will continue into February and March.
Al Sulaiti explained that the initiative aims to create a lasting impact by raising awareness about the rights and capabilities of people with visual disabilities, challenging stereotypes, and encouraging institutions to enhance accessibility and inclusion.
In addition to the initiative, Al Noor Center celebrated World Teachers' Day on October 5, honoring teachers and educational staff for their role in empowering people with visual disabilities. Executive Director Mishaal Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi highlighted the critical role of teachers in building confidence and independence among the center's members.
