Amnesty International Criticizes Global Support for Israel’s Legal Violations

Doha: Amnesty International stated that some states, public institutions, and companies around the world are enabling Israel's occupation ongoing violations of international law - or profiting from them - through complicity, support, or self-imposed inaction.

According to Qatar News Agency, Amnesty International released a report on Thursday detailing these violations, which include Israel's genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip, its unlawful occupation of the entire occupied Palestinian territory, and the apartheid system imposed on all Palestinians under its control.

Amnesty International's Secretary General Agnes Callamard emphasized the urgent need for states, public institutions, companies, universities, and other private actors to end their economic ties that support Israel's prolonged occupation and apartheid. She highlighted that Israel's actions have been sustained by international economic relations, trade, and a continuous supply of weapons and surveillance equipment.

Callamard further called for an end to the continuous support, stating that human dignity should not be compromised for economic gains. She pointed out the dire situation faced by Palestinian mothers in Gaza, contrasting it with the profits earned by arms companies and others. Amnesty International urged its members and supporters to demand an immediate halt to the political economy that sustains Israel's actions.

The report also recommends measures that states should adopt, such as banning companies that are linked to Israel's violations, implementing effective legislation, and moving towards divestment and halting procurement. It suggests steps for companies, including suspending sales or contracts and withdrawing investments.
