Doha: HE Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, Milton Dick, emphasized Qatar's significant role on the global stage, noting its dynamic contributions both regionally and internationally. This statement was made during his participation in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Doha.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dick highlighted the importance of hosting the 298th session of the IPU Executive Committee, which reinforces Qatar's position as an active member within the Union. He praised Qatar's organizational capabilities and active participation, expressing pride in collaborating with Qatar within the Executive Committee in his capacity as a representative of the Asian group.

Dick also discussed the robust parliamentary relationship between Australia and Middle Eastern countries, particularly Qatar. He noted the establishment of parliamentary friendship groups that enhance parliamentary diplomacy, supported by both nations' ambassadors. The IPU meetings, involving 138 member countries and nearly 44,000 parliamentarians, address global issues such as conflicts, climate change, gender equality, youth empowerment, and economic equality. Dick stressed the growing need for parliamentary diplomacy to address these challenges, highlighting the necessity for parliamentarians to collaborate in finding common solutions and ensuring citizen representation.

Finally, Dick underscored the importance of building safe environments, aligning with the original mandate of the IPU at its inception.
