Doha: Colombia secured the final spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 with a 1-0 victory over Ghana in their Round-of-32 clash at Kansas City Stadium on Friday.
According to Qatar News Agency, John Arias scored the decisive goal in the 14th minute, meeting a pinpoint cross inside the penalty area to give Colombia an early lead that proved enough to secure victory.
Colombia dominated the first half with greater possession and attacking intent, while Ghana responded strongly after the break in search of an equalizer. However, goalkeeper Camilo Vargas and Colombia's defense stood firm to preserve the clean sheet despite sustained pressure from Inaki Williams and Antoine Semenyo.
At the other end, Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi produced several fine saves to keep his side in contention, but Colombia held on to claim the final place in the Round of 16.
The victory sets up a Round-of-16 meeting with Switzerland on Tuesday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, while Ghana's World Cup campaign ended in the Round of 32.
