Doha: Egypt have reached the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Australia 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time in Dallas. The African side took the lead in the 13th minute through Emam Ashour, who headed home from a Karim Hafez cross. According to Qatar News Agency, Australia leveled in the 55th minute when an own goal by Mohamed Hany brought the match back on level terms. Egypt will face the winner of the match between Argentina and Cape Verde in the next round.
