Post: Doha Film Festival Reveals 2026 International Feature Film Competition Shortlist

Doha:The Doha Film Festival has announced the selection of 15 films that will compete in its 2026 International Feature Film Competition. These films represent distinctive voices from regions including the Arab world, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

According to Qatar News Agency, 11 of the selected films received support through the Doha Film Institute's Grants program, and seven of the films were directed by women. This selection underscores the festival's dedication to highlighting significant voices in independent cinema, with a focus on narratives from underrepresented regions.

Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, CEO of the Doha Film Institute and Director of the DFF, highlighted the festival's role in amplifying voices through cinema, stating that the event was designed to provide a platform for filmmakers who challenge norms and bring unique stories to a global audience. She expressed pride in Doha's involvement in showcasing these compelling works.

The competition, open to both narrative and documentary features, will feature the Middle East and North Africa premieres and will be judged by a panel of five international film professionals. Awards to be presented include the Best Narrative Award ($75,000), Best Documentary Award ($50,000), Best Artistic Achievement Award ($45,000), and Best Performance Award ($15,000).

Additionally, the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) will participate in DFF 2026 with a three-member jury to present a prize for the film deemed to have made the most significant achievement in the competition.

The festival is scheduled to run from November 19 to 27, bringing together filmmakers, audiences, and industry experts from the region and around the world to celebrate original storytelling and significant contributions to cinema.
