Erbil: The Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq announced the suspension of oil production at the Sarsang oil field in Duhok Governorate following a drone attack that ignited a fire at the facility.
According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry's statement detailed that two drones targeted the Sarsang field, resulting in material damage to the infrastructure and prompting the operating company to cease production as a precaution. The incident did not result in any casualties.
The ministry condemned the attack, labeling it as an assault on the economic infrastructure of the Kurdistan Region. They attributed responsibility to the groups orchestrating these attacks from territories under their control, emphasizing that such actions threaten both the regional economy and Iraq's broader oil revenues.
Additionally, the ministry urged the Iraqi federal government to implement measures to prevent future attacks on civilians and energy facilities, particularly within the oil and gas sectors of the Kurdistan Region.
The attacks have also affected other strategic locations, including Harir military base in Erbil, the province's international airport, and headquarters of Kurdish parties opposed to Iran, following the onset of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
