Doha: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call today with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss the latest developments concerning the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
According to Qatar News Agency, President El-Sisi reviewed the key elements of the agreement, which was reached through Egyptian, Qatari, and US mediation, outlining its various stages. He emphasized the importance of reaching consensus on all relevant details across each phase of the agreement and underscored the necessity of its full implementation.
For his part, the UN Secretary-General stressed the need to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza. He agreed with President El-Sisi on the importance of discussing all aspects of the ceasefire agreement in detail, at every stage. Guterres also highlighted the significance of agreeing on a path that leads to the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy, ensuring the unity of Gaza and the West Bank, and upholding the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.
He further emphasized the urgent need to begin the reconstruction of Gaza, expressing his support for the upcoming reconstruction conference to be hosted by Egypt.
