New york: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that Palestine must be recognized as a state now, and the humanitarian disaster in Gaza must be halted. In his speech on Monday evening at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, during the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, the Indonesian President stated that ending the war must be the top priority and overcoming hate and fear.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian President stressed that recognizing the State of Palestine is the right step in the right direction for history. Meanwhile, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa declared that his country has officially recognized Palestine as a "state with full sovereign rights," adding that this decision reflects Portugal's belief that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East. He further explained that, by reaffirming this recognition at today's conference, Portugal seeks to contribute to a broader international effort to achieve peace, justice, and stability.
He also called for a ceasefire in Gaza, the immediate release of all detainees, and the assurance of humanitarian aid delivery. He called for taking actions, warning that this crisis will leave scars for generations, fueling extremism and increasing instability.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, in his address, emphasized that recognizing the aspirations of the Palestinian people is not just about a seat or a vote in the world's councils, but about a real hope for a place they call home. He cautioned that Gaza is now in the grip of a humanitarian catastrophe, and that the Israeli occupation government must bear its share of responsibility. Prime Minister Albanese added that by working together, the world can build a future where, instead of children in Gaza dying from pain, or living in fear, or being taught hatred, they can go to school and build a great life of freedom. He stated that this future depends on recognition, followed by reconstruction and reform.
