New York:Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Donald Blome engaged in discussions focusing on security developments in the Middle East, with an emphasis on navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Qatar News Agency, these discussions occurred on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Hussein highlighted the critical need to shield Iraq and the broader region from the adverse effects of escalating tensions, remarking that Iraq has been significantly impacted by the ongoing conflicts and tensions between the United States and Iran, which have led to serious security and economic challenges.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister expressed support for international efforts to foster understanding between the United States and Iran, aiming to secure the safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the trajectory of security and military cooperation between Iraq and the United States. The discussions included transitioning to a phase centered on advisory support, training, and intelligence cooperation, as well as finalizing the procedures necessary to conclude the International Coalition's mission in Iraq.
