Doha:the UN Security Council has strongly condemned the ongoing Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, as well as the continued threats to commercial navigation in the Red Sea and Bab Al Mandab. The Council has demanded an immediate end to military escalation and the targeting of civilians.
According to Qatar News Agency, In a press statement, the Council reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's inherent right to self-defense under international law and expressed full solidarity with the Kingdom. It also urged for the strict implementation of Resolution 2216 and called for international cooperation to block the flow of weapons, funding, and technical aid to Houthi forces.
The Council expressed grave concern regarding reports from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), which indicate that at least 125,000 civilians have been killed, injured, or displaced in Yemen since early September due to Houthi strikes.
Furthermore, the Council called for unhindered humanitarian access and demanded the immediate and unconditional release of detained UN, diplomatic, and NGO personnel. It reaffirmed its commitment to Yemen's unity and sovereignty, emphasizing that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through violence. The Council urged all parties to engage constructively with UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg toward reaching a comprehensive political settlement.
