Baghdad: The Iraqi Council of Representatives (parliament) will convene on Tuesday to elect a new president for the Republic of Iraq. In a press release, the Iraqi parliament's media office stated that Speaker Hebat Al Halbousi scheduled the presidential election for Tuesday during today's session that was attended by 226 parliament members and dedicated to discussing security and border challenges with neighboring countries.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Iraqi parliament's leadership had announced in mid-January the 19 candidates who met the legal requirements to run for the presidency.
