Post: Japan’s Nikkei Soars Amid Surge in Chip and AI Stocks

Doha: Japan's Nikkei share average closed more than 2 percent higher on Monday, buoyed by gains in chip and AI-related stocks, following an upswing in US semiconductor shares. The Nikkei rose 2.12 percent to reach 66,399.84, marking its highest closing level since August 28. The broader Topix index also experienced an increase, rising 0.55 percent to 4,125.8.

According to Qatar News Agency, notable performances were seen in the shares of Advantest and Tokyo Electron, both of which rose over 4 percent. Technology investor SoftBank Group saw a significant jump of 11.22 percent, while memory maker Kioxia climbed 9.31 percent, and Kokusai Electric advanced 7.64 percent. Conversely, Sony Group, a camera and audio equipment maker, experienced a decline of 2.7 percent. The banking sector also saw a downturn, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group falling 1.96 percent and 1.51 percent, respectively.
