Lebanese President Condemns Israeli Attack on UN Peacekeepers in the South

Doha: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun has condemned the recent Israeli attack on the United Nations Interim Force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL).

According to Qatar News Agency, in a phone call today with UNIFIL Commander Major General Diodato Abagnara, President Aoun described the attack as further evidence of Israel's continued defiance of international will, which had only days earlier called for a cessation of hostilities against Lebanon, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territory in the south, the release of Lebanese detainees, and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

President Aoun emphasized that the most alarming aspect of the recent attack was that Israel had prior knowledge of UNIFIL's operations to remove roadblocks along the Blue Line, making the targeting of the peacekeeping force appear deliberate.

He called for urgent international action to hold Israel accountable for its repeated violations of Security Council resolutions and the international protections granted to peacekeeping missions worldwide.
